Hi guys,

This could be only me but I've had a lot of problems connecting irc.gtanet.com and its other subservers like triton etc.

It seems to be down quite a lot and that's surely making communication over irc diffcult.

Has the idea of having our own irc server or a more stable place to settle (another big irc node for example) ever been discussed?

Again, let me know if it's only me, but the weird thing is I'm able to join other networks so this should as a result be gtanet's downtime.

I am for it, but to transition slowly, like "the new room is: server/room" in the gritengine chat for a little while, maybe tag people and let them know.

As for a place to go, Freenode is there. Spark and I are already in a number of chats there (not sure his list, I am in a few myself, and there is actually a Grit room there, but dunno the story with it right now or if Spark released that to another user)

GTAnet was indeed down for a while earlier, it might have been the news about the e3 GTA V presence, or they might have been changing something around.

We have discussed going to another chat server before though, one of the main reasons were that people are going to recognize freenode, and potentially only a much smaller group with be able to recognize (and then trust to join) GTAnet (some won't even know what is GTA, but odds are, many are already familiar with freenode - something like that).

Yeah I was just ranting a bit. If you guys want to move it over freenode that's good to me. But certainly everyone will want to voice their opinion on the matter. I don't want to make you guys change anything if you like the way it is at the moment.

I'm only connecting on the GTAnet server for GRIT. My main IRC where I follow most projects is Freenode. There's already a #grit there but me and Brian are the only users. If anyone else wishes to join that channel as well (and in time transfer everyone permanently or keep both) I believe that would be welcome.

#grit is already the "Git Repository Intialization Tool" what about #gritengine. GTANET is down again by the way.

I think that's a topic Brian set for fun. I remember he made #grit but only him and me joined on freenode. The owner's name is BriCakes so I think that's Brian... fail for me if I was wrong :P

I created #grit on freenode, it stayed unused for a while, and then a guy came in asking to use it for his git project. I think that project did not go anyway and we could reclaim it if necessary.

As, I see. I'd suggest using #gritengine instead then. I'll unjoin the old one, let me know if a new one is ever made there.

Nah we should use #grit because it's shorter and I already own it.

Seems the channel on freenode is still in use by the previous owner, heh :P
