I have been told to begin an urban environment a while back to diversify the things we are working on for the later end points of the development map. While I could throw together a generic city line or generate one, or make some inner-grid network of roads to build off, I want it to be cool instead. :up:

SO what I want to do is have this thread and discuss the urban environment and debate what it will be like as a community.

This is like; It can be a real place or a fake place, but it needs to be a semi-realistic/present day place. Urban environment, cities or suburbs, clean or dingy, huge or small, whatever the case, it needs to be a community effort as far as seeing what and where it ought to be, and I'm being ambiguous as to not taint your ideas with my own fantasies (that wouldn't really be fair).

A poll will eventually be added. The speed at which that happens of course depends on interaction and debate over the locations (again, be they real or fake or a mix of both). I'll hold off on any further planning of my own it until we have some ideas floating around.

:ok: Descriptions, story idea projections awesome
:ok: Music/Film/Book/Art for inspiration or description awesome

It's all good, let's just get the cookie baking. :Aw:

so this is to make another map based on a city? why don't do it on playground instead, we can have a city somewhere.

Yeah I think Brian should do this, but put it somewhere other than 0,0,0 so we can link it up with playground at some later date. Maybe two separate islands with a bridge, or link it up over land, depending on how the scenes develop.

This doesn't place any artistic constraints, in SA the areas were completely different styles but they still managed to mesh it together pretty seamlessly.

well Jost was the one who told me to start an urban environment. Said Playground is more open and rural and tech demo, so to start a city... said do generic stuff and wing it, but I want to start with character in it already.

It wouldn't be a good idea to build on top of or beside the playground, but within the same space I think is good. We need a flagship 'map' that is good and big, even though it is currently possible to create individual maps that are not linked in any way.

Same folder/map, not the same, no issue to me really, I like the idea of going in playground, but where should it be based on? :P What should it look like? what would be exciting for everyone/nearly involved so far? Cause it'll take a while, and we don't want it to get boring :P

It might be better to do a village or small town at first. What we really need is to amass a large amount of photographs and context art to discuss. I think the focus should be on the open public spaces and the hidden private places, these are what give it character.
